Papua New Guinea World Mission Inc was established in response to the fact that millions of people in India and other part of the world, particularly of the ten-forty window nations, are dying every day without being given the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, Christianity has hardly penetrating these regions because these regions are mostly dominated by other religion such as Hinduism and Islam.
By the grace of the Almighty God this organisation aims to mobilize Christians and Churches in Papua New Guinea to have a heart for the unreached so that they may also go out into the world to declare and show the love of Jesus.
In this section you shall read about the humble beginning of Papua New Guinea World Mission Inc.
The formation of this organisation came about as a result of the challenge received by a number of Christians in Papua New Guinea shortly after the death of missionary Jeff Ojayempa Tony in year 2004. The idea of Papua New Guinea having its own indigenous missionary sending agency was a vision upheld by the late Pastor Reverend Megghan Zarrigga.
Pastor Megghan Zarrigga was a man of vision and a man so passionate in the work of evangelism and disciple-making. Under his leadership, he trained and mentored many missionaries at his school of evangelism. Most of his students were either youths, school drop-outs or misfortunate people, who lived in squatter settlements. Although his congregation was physically limited in certain areas, that did not subdue his enormous will and desire to send Papua New Guinean missionaries abroad to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
After Pastor Zarrigga and missionary Jeff Tony had passed away, there was a strong conviction for the mobilisation of Christians in Papua New Guiea. Prayerfully leaders were apointed from around Papua New Guinea and then given offices to for the Governing Council. These leaders were chosen irrespective of their denominational background who in turn formed the Governing Council of this organisation. The names of the leaders are as follows:
Mr Haggai Zarigga > Chairman.
Mr Philemon Tulo > Secretary, Sione Kami Memorial Church, Port Moresby.
Pastor Bapa Bomoteng > Treasurer, Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Lae.
Mr James Yugari > Evangelical Church of PNG.
Pastor Nick Wani > Apostolic Church, Lae.
Mr Wemin Mogia > St Matthews Lutheran.
Mr Yowa Zurenu > Lutheran Students Congregation, UPNG.
Pastor Joe Piniau > PNG Bible, Lae.
The late missionary Jeff Ojayempa Tony was a student of the late Pastor Megghan Zarrigga for about two years. After being taught evangelism by Pastor Zarrigga he then undertook the CLTC-TE Launch Out Course. The current Director for this organisation, Mrs. Tema Manko was his tutor when he took that course.
After completing this course he was then attached with Operation Mobilisation. In year 1996, he was endorsed by Pastor Zarrigga and the elders at his church congregation, TOWAMO Trinity Lutheran Church. Upon arrival in India he served in the Love India Ministry (Operation Mobilisation). He served in a door-to-door evangelism program among the Muslim and the Hindu communities. Within a year of his service he decided to quit and return to Papua New Guinea.
At his congregation at TOWAMO Trinity Lutheran Church, he declared that his greatest desire was to go back to Bangalore, India but this time to work more aggressively and extensively so that more people could hear the Gospel of Jesus. He urged his congregation for support. In the year 1997, he returned to Bangalore to continue his service.
During his seven years of service, a total of 8 Churches (congregations) were built, two of which were situated in the city of Bangalore while the remaining six were situated in the villages of Bangalore.
He passed away two weeks after he collapsed at a church service. The missionary died at the age of 33 and was laid to rest at a Christian cemetry at Bangalore city. He left behind wife Elizabeth and daughter Tema Preethi.
The life of this great missionary is seen as a seed (John 12: 24). His death simply means that more Papua New Guinean missionaries are expected to be exported to India.
It is our prayer that we shall never be satisfied until the entire India comes to know Jesus the Christ.
